Police: Butler man stabs woman while driving in Oakland Township

A Butler man is accused of stabbing a woman while the two were driving in Oakland Township, according to police.

Jase W. Charlton, 29, was charged with two felony counts of aggravated assault, two misdemeanor counts of simple assault and one misdemeanor count of terroristic threats following a Tuesday, May 6 traffic stop.

State police initiated a traffic stop on a white Kia Sorento driven by Charlton after a woman in the vehicle called 911. Police said they observed a fresh stab wound on the woman’s left upper leg, another stab wound to her upper neck area and bruising.

Police said Charlton and the woman were in the vehicle on Tuesday when Charlton stopped the vehicle, unbuckled his seat belt and held a knife to the woman’s throat.

Police said Charlton told the woman during the incident “I am going to kill you” before stabbing the woman in the upper left leg with the knife.

Charges against Charlton were filed Thursday. He is being held in Butler County Prison in lieu of $100,000 bail.

A preliminary hearing before District Judge Lewis Stoughton is scheduled for 10:10 a.m. Tuesday
