Butler County author included in compilation book featured on Times Square billboard
A Butler County author is not only featured in a book compiling inspirational stories from a number of woman across the world, but she met many of her co-authors for the first time on a trip to New York City to see their book advertised in Times Square.
Shanea Clancy, who also runs Clancy Consulting Services, wrote a chapter for “Believe Beyond: Discover the Power of Unwavering Belief.” Clancy said her chapter, “Rise with Resilience,” revolves around her experiences mountaineering, a skill she started learning around 2015.
Clancy said she started doing mountaineering around 2015, and used her experience in the field to tell a story about resilience. Because, as it turns out, having to build up the strength and dexterity to climb mountains requires a little resilience and belief in one’s self.
“It’s really about different terrain, high-altitudes,” Clancy said. “Ice climbing is my favorite. You literally have ice picks that you slam into ice. You have to kick into the ice to get stabilized.”
Clancy said she builds her chapter around a particular climbing experience — her first time ice climbing.
“I went to McConnells Mill, and I kept falling,” Clancy said. “There was a 90-degree overhead, and I kept falling and I had to keep getting back up. I had to overcome any type of internal dialogue, muscle fatigue. I was numb. Just trying to get over the biggest overhang, it just really required mental attitude, leadership and stabilization.”
Kate Butler, publisher of Kate Butler Books, said she has publishes several books that compile authors’ stories that are meant to inspire others. She said she interviews each writer before they can be included in one of her books.
Clancy has written other books, recently “Transforming Trauma into Triumph,” which helped land her on Butler’s radar.
“We have a value or a mission we stand by, is we publish stories that will help heal and inspire in the journey of their life,” Butler said. “People are always looking to improve and grow, and I think these stories give them hope and that feel good feeling at the end of the day.”
