Martin Funeral Home acquires Geibel Funeral Home
Martin Funeral Home, located on Center Avenue, has increased its reach with the acquisition of the Geibel Funeral Home, which was announced Thursday, May 1.
“The expansion move now allows us to continue to provide professional, compassionate and respectful funeral and cremation services to families at not just one, but two, facilities,” said owner Tom Martin in a news release.
This effectively brings to a close the Geibel family’s funeral home business which started in 1919 and continued through four generations of the Geibel family.
According to Martin, the acquisition came about because Chad Geibel, the most recent Geibel to operate the funeral home, chose to leave the funeral home profession behind and join his son, Maxx, in his excavating business, MXG Excavating.
“Mr. Geibel was changing directions in his life,” Martin said.
He added that the terms of the deal have been in the works for months, and that new Martin signage should be placed shortly at the former Geibel building at East Cunningham Street.
Martin says that customers holding an account with Geibel will continue to receive service with the newly-merged Martin Funeral Home.
“Nothing changes,” Martin said. “I will continue operating in the same way that Mr. Geibel and the Martin Funeral Home have done for years. There will be no change for people other than that they’ll be seeing me and not Mr. Geibel.”
This acquisition does not affect the Spencer D. Geibel Funeral Home in Butler Township.
