Severe weather is expected to return to Butler County this afternoon, May 1, only two days after a storm swept through the region, damaging property and leaving thousands without power for days.

The National Weather Service in Pittsburgh predicts severe thunderstorms will pass through the region between 3 and 10 p.m., with storms scheduled to hit Butler County between 3 and 8 p.m.

These weather threats include damaging winds, large hail, flash flooding and tornadoes, but the weather service believes tornadoes are the least likely event as of 10:30 a.m.

A few morning showers are expected to hit the region, but those storm systems are not expected to bring severe weather, according to the National Weather Service.

As of 10:30 a.m. Thursday, West Penn Power indicated more than 2,600 Butler County residents were still without power. Central Electric, which serves portions of Butler County as well, was reporting only two outages at that time.
