Salvation Army looking to rebuild after warehouse fire
The Salvation Army Western Pennsylvania Division is looking to the public to replenish its supply of donations to supply local thrift stores after a Thursday fire at one of its Pittsburgh facilities rendered about 35 tons of donated supplies unusable.
The incident took place at the Adult Rehabilitation Center on South 9th Street in Pittsburgh when a trash compactor caught fire. While no one was injured, the Salvation Army lost a reported 65,155 pounds of clothing and 5,090 pounds of shoes due to smoke damage.
The Salvation Army uses the sale of donated clothing and other items at thrift stores to fund the operation of Adult Rehabilitation Centers. A Salvation Army thrift store is on North Main Street in Butler.
