Update: PA American Water continues to replace water lines in Butler
Three roads in Butler receiving water system upgrades will see further progress over the next few weeks, according to Pennsylvania American Water.
The company previously announced a $1.6 million project in March dedicated to replacing more than 1.2 miles of water mains in Butler. The project focuses on three areas: Brown Avenue from Center Avenue to the 400 block of Brown Avenue, Delwood Road in the area of Oxcart Lane, and Whitestown Road between its 200 and 300 blocks.
The project is addressing aging infrastructure along Brown Avenue and to prevent future water main breaks along Delwood and Whitestown roads. Contractor Mealy Excavating and Construction is expected to install new 8- and 12-inch ductile iron pipe to replace existing water mains.
Brent Robinson, manager of external affairs for Pennsylvania American Water, said Mealy Construction is set to wrap up the water main portion of the Brown Avenue installation during the week of April 21. Then, the avenue will see the installation of a new 8-inch sewer main in May.
On the week of April 28, crews will move to Whitestown Road to begin work on the sewer main and services.
On the week of May 5, work on Delwood Road is projected to begin. Robinson said work is expected to take about a month for the main and another two weeks for services.
While work is ongoing, Pennsylvania American Water said customers might experience temporary service interruptions, discolored water and lower than normal water pressure.
