Submitted photo by state police

State police are asking for the public’s help after responding to the Butler County Humane Society Tuesday evening, Nov. 26, where a man left a dog in a cage outside the shelter for more than 12 hours.

A news release from state police said an investigation found that a black “smaller style pickup truck” arrived at the humane society at around 6 p.m. Tuesday. There were two people in the vehicle. A man exited the truck, unloaded the cage with the dog inside it to outside the entrance of the humane society, and then drove away.

The dog remained in the cage outside overnight, where temperatures were around 33 degrees. Staff arrived at around 7 a.m. the next day to find the dog outside before bringing it inside for treatment, according to police.

State police are asking for anyone with information on the two people in the truck to contact the Butler barracks at 724-284-8100.
