Fetterman, Kelly introduce bills to grant national designation to Washington’s Trail
U.S. Sen. John Fetterman, D-Pa., introduced the “Washington’s Trail — 1753 National Historic Trail Feasibility Study Act of 2024” on Friday, Sept. 13, which authorizes would direct the Secretary of the Interior to conduct a study on the feasibility of designating Washington’s Trail as a national historic trail.
A similar piece of legislation was introduced into the House by Rep. Mike Kelly, R-16th, along with Tim Kaine, D-Va., and Mark Warner, D-Va.
Washington’s Trail takes visitors on the same path George Washington traveled through Western Pennsylvania in the fall of 1753, on his way to deliver a message to the French in the northwest part of the then-colony. Part of the trail passes through Butler County.
