Ronald Marak
Ronald J. Marak, 88, of Butler, passed away Sunday, Sept. 1, 2024, surrounded by family.
He was born Aug. 24, 1936, in Pittsburgh, son of the late John Marak Jr. and Angela Anna Weidor Marak.
Ron proudly served in the Marine Corps for five years during the Korean War era. He was a graduate of North Catholic High School. He attended Allegheny Community College where he earned his associate degree in criminal justice, and the University of Pittsburgh where he earned his bachelor’s degree in administrative justice. He also attended the Art Institute of Pittsburgh, earning a degree in graphic arts and design.
Ron proudly served as a police officer for the city of Pittsburgh for 25 years, retiring as a sergeant. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge No. 1 for over 50 years. He was president of the Spring Hill Civic League; partner of his own security business, Marine Security; founding member of the Northside Public Safety Council; and active member in the Bantam Marine Corps League Detachment No. 743 for over 20 years. After retirement, he drove a school bus for Campbell Bus Co. for Moniteau School District for 17 years. He was a model citizen and devoted Catholic.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Rosemary (Fochtman) Marak; two sons, Ronald C. and Joshua J. Marak; and two brothers, Jack “John” and Roy Marak.
He leaves behind five daughters, Elizabeth Marak, Kimberly (John, deceased) Spinelli, Tracey Sarver, Kelly (John) Rackley and Amy (Jerold) Smith; three sons, Christopher Marak, Jonathan (April) Marak and Jacob Marak; brother, Thomas Marak; sisters, Carolann Zaborowski and Marygrace Chandler; sisters-in-law, Darlene Marak, Virginia Marak and Sally Fochtman; 19 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and his beloved service dog, Holly.
MARAK — Friends of Ronald J. Marak, who died Sunday, Sept. 1, 2024, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at GEIBEL FUNERAL HOME, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Andrew Roman Catholic Church, 1660 N. Main Street Ext., Butler. Inurnment will be in Cemetery of the Alleghenies.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Butler County Humane Society, 1015 Evans City Road, Renfrew, PA 16053.
