Sherburne Jamison
Sherburne “Sherb” William Jamison, 72, of Cherry Valley (Emlenton), beloved husband of 53 years to Sue (Eshenbaugh) Jamison, unexpectedly passed away at home on Wednesday, July 3, 2024.
He is survived by his daughters, Melissa (Jason) Hanlon, Valerie (Ryan) Leonberg and Holly (Mike) O’Lare. He was a loving and devoted Papa. His grandchildren, who adored him, are Jamison and Jesse Hanlon, Braxton and Roman Jordan, and Kamren and Kali O’Lare. His furry friends are Tyler and Grizzly.
Preceding Sherb in death were his infant grandson, Kyle W. Hanlon; his parents, Grace and Bob Jamison; his mother- and father-in-law, Art and Ethel Eshenbaugh; and brothers-in-law, Chuck and John Eshenbaugh.
Born on Jan. 24, 1952, Sherb grew up in Cherry Valley, loving the outdoors. Rain, snow, it didn’t matter. Getting muddy or jumping snow drifts on his Ski-Doo was his best life, along with dune buggy rides, motorcycle rides, ATV fun, Jet Skis, snowmobiling in Canada, and trips in his Corvette with his wife, Sue “Z,” and friends. And, of course, every moment spent with his grandkids at basketball, dance, gymnastics, baseball, and MX and AWRCS racing.
Sherb was a 1969 graduate of Moniteau High School and attended Butler County Community College. As a teen, he was employed at local farms and mowed lawns. Later in his teens, he worked at Hunter Truck Sales in Eau Claire, steaming trucks, pumping gas and working in the parts department. Later in the 1970s, he was the first to implement a parts delivery system one day a week, which expanded to five days a week, and then multiple vehicles covering larger areas. With the company’s expansion, he became parts manager, and upon his retirement, he was parts director. Many accolades were awarded to Sherb including Parts Manager of the Year for Peterbilt Trucks and International.
His favorite hobby was farming. He loved getting on his tractor, planting crops, harvesting his luscious hayfields, and anticipating the new baby calves. He also loved his time on horseback with his daughter, Val. He shared his passion of hunting with his grandchildren and close family friends. He was a member of East Unity Presbyterian Church in Cherry Valley.
Sherb was always there to offer a helping hand. He has taught us so much about life and living it to the fullest. Our friends refer to him as ‘Larger than Life’, and he had a memorable presence to everyone who knew him.
