Man accused of trying to break into Cranberry Township office

A Bridgeville man was accused of breaking glass to gain access to a closed office building in Cranberry Township last week, according to charges filed Monday, June 17.

Ahmed M. Rezk, 32, was charged with felonies burglary and criminal trespassing and misdemeanor criminal mischief after police took him into custody inside the Market House Circle building Friday.

Rezk reportedly sent several text messages to an employee of Charter Homes and Neighborhoods asking to meet. Police said Rezk had previous business with the company but was asked by the employee to not come to the office for a meeting Friday.

Rezk was insistent on meeting with the employee, documents showed. Police said the employee advised other staff members to leave the office and lock the door.

Police said they were dispatched to the business just after 12:30 p.m. Friday for reports of Rezk pounding on the building’s outer door.

When police arrived, they found Rezk had forced open a door in the business’ foyer by breaking glass and a door handle, documents showed. He was taken into custody and placed in Butler County Prison in lieu of $10,000.

Rezk’s preliminary hearing before District Judge Kevin Flaherty is scheduled June 21.
