Butler man charged for failing to register as a sex offender
A Butler man was charged by city police with two felonies for failing to comply with Megan’s Law registration requirements.
Robert J. Barbaro, 54, is listed as a lifetime registrant on the Megan’s Law website in connection to a 2010 conviction for indecent assault of a minor. Megan’s Law is a federal statute requiring convicted sex offenders to register with police.
He was charged May 10 with felonies failing to register with state police and failing to verify his address.
Police began investigating Barbaro’s whereabouts March 22 after he failed to appear for a verification appointment between March 5 and 14 at the state police Butler barracks, documents showed.
Police said they spoke with Barbaro’s former landlord and others he was potentially staying with, but these attempts to contact him were unsuccessful.
Barbaro’s last appearance was Jan. 26, and he has no alternate address, documents showed.
