YMCA starting sessions to train youth mentors

The Butler YMCA is having training sessions for its Reach and Rise youth mentoring program, where adults can be trained to work with children in groups and one-on-one.

The Reach and Rise program serves youth ages 6 to 17, who could benefit from help with improving self-esteem, decision making, academic success, social skills, building and maintaining healthy peer and family relationships and feeling a sense of belonging.

The training will prepare new volunteers to mentor in groups in the upcoming summer and fall. There are four three-hour sessions from 3 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, April 18, April 25, May 2 and May 9.

Volunteers must also be at least 21 years old, and must obtain background clearances. People must register to apply, by calling Kelly King at 724-287-4733 ext. 161, or by email at kking@bcfymca.org.
