The upcoming show by the Musical Theatre Guild of Butler features a cast of four, contemporary music, and an upbeat look at budding relationships in young people.

Megan Flannery, co-producer of MTG’s “Ordinary Days,” said the show is a sunny look into life and reflections on relationships. It debuts April 19 at the MTG production center in Butler Memorial Park.

“Everything they are dealing with is more lighthearted,” Flannery said. “Who we cast are kind of in their younger years. It has a youthful feel to it; the music for the most part is upbeat, funny situations.”

The musical, Flannery said, follows two pairs of people — a man and woman in a relationship, and a college-age duo in an “unlikely friendship” — but the pairs never interact in the show.

“Ordinary Days” debuted in 2008, and Flannery said it is set in the early-2000s. The musical has adult situations she said are more geared to people in their teens and older, and has a runtime of about an hour-and-a-half, and there is no intermission.

The cast consists of Matt Leslie as Jason, Paulina Neuschwander as Claire, Jeremy Poynton as Warren and Jaycie Frye as Deb. Sofie Marino is an understudy who will be portraying Deb for the April 19 show.

Flannery said rehearsals for the show have been going well.

“It's an interesting thing because with the two couples not interacting,” Flannery said. “A lot of rehearsals have been one couple doing their music and the other doing theirs.”

Curtain is at 7:30 p.m. April 19, 20, 26 and 27, and at 3 p.m. April 21 at the MTG building, 100 Memorial Drive, Butler. Tickets are $18 per person and are available in advance at mtgbutler.org.
