Institute for Learning in Retirement having musical fundraiser
The Institute for Learning in Retirement at Slippery Rock University is having a musical fundraiser to support its programming.
The ILR Bash will feature performances by musicians who cover a variety of genres, including singer-songwriter, rock and folk. It takes place from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17, at the SRU Alumni House, 105 Campus Drive in Slippery Rock.
Andy Johnson, ILR chairman of the publicity committee, said the event is also to introduce people to the programs available through the organization in hopes it attracts people who have not taken any classes through the institute.
“We want this to be a mingle event,” Johnson said. “It’ll go into promoting our educational programming.”
This year is the 25th anniversary of the founding of the institute, with Johnson explaining that it was founded in 2001 by a husband and wife who wanted a home for education for retired people.
The performers for the bash are Kathy Soroka, Malley Branchetti, Mark DeWalt and Mark Lane.
The on-campus fundraiser includes entertainment, food and libations. Tickets are $30 and include appetizers by Aramark, the campus’ food services provider. They are available at the Slippery Rock Giant Eagle, 223 Grove City Road, Slippery Rock, or by calling Johnson at 724-991-5479.
