Miller Minutes with Butler Eagle reporter, Molly Miller

Easter egg hunts are taking over Butler County this weekend, as you’ll see in the following paragraphs.

Expect to encounter children running wild, baskets in hand, through local parks, on church campuses and even in backyards in celebration of an age-old tradition of finding eggs hidden by a bunny. Riddle me that?

In all seriousness, the tradition is incredibly adorable and should serve as a reminder that you’re never too old for a scavenger hunt of any kind. Why do you think geocaching was so big at the height of the pandemic? Because deep down, we all love a mystery, and we all love to get creative and watch the gears turn in the minds of the hunters as they seek the treasure.

Take it from me, there are tricks to hiding Easter eggs in an outdoor setting. Here are some examples.

■ Place eggs near objects of a similar color, such as a tree or patch of daffodils.

■ An egg hidden above eye level is unfair to youths who haven’t hit their growth spurt, but an egg at equal eye level is somehow mind-boggling.

■ Bird feeders are a funny and ironic place for an egg to be stowed away.

With these tips, you should be well on your way to planning an extraordinary scavenging celebration. If you’re not up to planning an egg hunt yourself, don’t worry. Plenty of others in Butler County have done it for you. And if you’re not into hunting eggs, there are other events being held in recognition of Easter.
