CHERRY TWP — Students in Moniteau Jr./Sr. High School’s FFA chapter addressed the school board at a meeting Monday, Feb. 26, and they spoke about their experiences at January’s state farm show.

Students told board members about their farm show presentations, which also included demonstrations on farm and agriculture safety, as well as their tours of CNH Industrial’s plant in New Holland, which manufactures farm equipment, and Herr Foods’ factory, where potato chips are made. Finally, some students showed board directors how to tie a trilene knot.

During the annual farm show in Harrisburg, chapter president Morgan Teets won first place as champion senior showman.

After the students’ presentation, board president Michael Panza and board directors commended the students for their involvement in FFA.

Board director Mark DeMatteis, who was a member of the chapter when he was a student, asked the group about preferred brands of farm equipment.

Board director Janeen Beatty, who said she grew up on a farm, praised the group for their professionalism.

“You have no idea how proud we are of each and every one of you,” Panza said.

Band trailer

At the meeting, Jeff Campbell, director of buildings and grounds, discussed the possibility of purchasing a box truck in place of a trailer for the high school band, citing safety concerns for maintenance staff, overtime costs and liability concerns. A box truck is similar to a pickup truck, Campbell said, and would be easier to drive for staff members who are unfamiliar with the size of a band trailer. Furthermore, Campbell said, the box truck could be used for a variety of purposes by the district.

Campbell will speak further on the subject with the band director, Panza said.
