Lowrie House program a fuzzy success
More than 2,000 new and gently used stuffed animals were collected at Lowrie House in Butler Township for distribution to emergency services officials to help comfort children involved in vehicle crashes, domestic disputes and other frightening situations.
Carol Warner, director of resident programming at Lowrie House, said while the plush toys were collected during the month of January, they still were arriving in the second week of February.
After sorting the items, Warner and the residents of Lowrie House, an assisted living facility, created 1,495 bags ready for distribution.
Each bag had two to four stuffed animals, and each stuffed animal was pinned with an uplifting message.
Emergency services administrators who visited Lowrie House to retrieve the bags included Chief John Hays of Butler Township Police Department; Scott Frederick, director of Butler County Emergency Services; Nate Bacher, supervisor at Butler Ambulance Service; and Charlie Johns, executive director at Butler County Children & Youth Services.
Warner said she is overwhelmed and extremely grateful to the community for their donations of stuffed animals and their support of Lowrie House.
