Trooper taken to hospital after Saturday crash on Route 422

A state trooper was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital after a two-vehicle crash Saturday evening, Feb. 10, on Route 422 in Franklin Township.

Trooper Everett Lesko, 29, of Butler, was attempting to make a U-turn in a police vehicle when his vehicle was struck by a Pontiac Torrent driven by Danny Helton, 74, of Ohio.

According to documents, the crash occurred around 7:30 p.m. on Route 422 near Albert Lane.

Police said Lesko was traveling west on Route 422 with Helton’s vehicle directly behind him. Police said Lesko pulled the vehicle onto the right shoulder of the road in preparation for a U-turn.

Helton said he assumed the police vehicle was pulling over and attempted to travel around it, according to documents. The two vehicles then collided in the westbound lanes, police said.

Helton was not injured and was able to drive his vehicle from the scene, according to police.

Documents showed Lesko was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital by Butler Ambulance Service for evaluation and the police vehicle was towed from the scene.
