Roy Lesnett Sr.
Roy Christie Lesnett Sr., 100, of Portersville, passed away at Quality Life Services in New Castle on Saturday, Jan. 13, 2024. He was born in Portersville on April 26, 1923, and was the son of William Elmer Lesnett and Elsie Jane Marie English Lesnett. He married Gladys Irene Jones in 1943, and she preceded him in death on April 18, 1971.
Roy was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in World War II.
He retired from U.S. Steel after 32 years of service and later worked at Yogi Bear Campground on grounds and maintenance and also in maintenance at Laurel High School for nine years ending in 1988.
Pap, as he was known by many, was a BLESSING to generations of our family. He spent his life serving others, serving his country and serving the Lord. He stood as a strong leader, a teacher and an example. He worked hard his whole life, sacrificed for his family and walked in faith. So, while we grieve and know that we will miss him greatly, we can find comfort knowing that he is not suffering and is no longer confined to the “old iron horse” (his wheelchair.) He is resting in the arms of our Savior and walking in green pastures.
Roy enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include two daughters, C. Sue McMurdy of Prospect and Sandy K. Savannah of New Castle; three sons, Henry P. (Drema) Lesnett, Roy C. (Bonnie) Lesnett Jr. of New Castle and Arthur E. (Patti) Lesnett of Waynesburg; a sister, Bessie Heckathorne of New Castle; 15 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his daughter, Doris Heller; three grandchildren, Wendy Lesnett, Judy Heller and Bobby McMurdy; three brothers, Robert, Elmer and George; and two sisters, Mary Geyer and Betty Lefever.
