Florine Burr

Florine G. “Flo” Mathews Burr, 87, of Evans City passed away Saturday morning Jan. 13, 2024, at Good Samaritan Hospice, Wexford.

Born in Glenshaw on Aug. 2, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Marie Bernesser Mathews.

She was a member of St. Matthias Catholic Church, Evans City. She held strong to her faith and prayed for every family member and friend that ever needed it.

Flo married William Burr. They resided in Evans City with their five children. Together they operated Burr’s Esso Service Station on Route 68 in Evans City.

She enjoyed word searches, puzzles and playing cards with her family. She also loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and watching them grow up. She showed her love to her family through hugs, kind words and food.

She is survived by three daughters, Marie (William) Huffman of Maryland, Mary Jean (Edward) Crawford of Seneca, and Sharon (Edwin) McGee of Virginia; one brother, Ronald (Linda) Mathews of Valencia; 11 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Florine was preceded in death by her husband, William Burr Sr., on Dec. 29, 2000; two sons, William (Billy) Jr. and George Burr; two brothers; and three sisters.

BURR — Friends and relatives of Florine G. “Flo” Burr, who died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2024, will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the A. CARL KINSEY-RONALD N. VOLZ FUNERAL HOME, Evans City.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

She will be laid to rest in Butler County Memorial Park.

The family has suggested memorial donations for Florine be made to St. Jude Hospital or to a charity for veterans.
