Eric Smochek

Smochek

A life of quiet strength, humble intellect and devoted love for those in one’s life should be celebrated. Eric J. Smochek modeled these traits, in a life worth honoring that came to an end on Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2024.

Eric’s mark on this world was made by his soul. He was the safe harbor, the solid ground, and the voice of empathy and honesty. A man you could depend on when you needed help. A man who would listen, more than talk. A man who would use his vast intellect and great heart to let you know that no feeling you had was invalid. His smile was warm, his gaze was knowing and kind, and his generosity was simple and unpretentious. He knew his roles as husband, father, brother, son and just “Smo” were the most important achievements of his life.

He loved living in the country, sports, reading fantasy novels and spending time with those he loved most, his wife, Caterina; his children, Owen, Dominic and Ellianna; his brothers, Michael and Josh; his sisters, Christine and Jennifer; his parents, Raymond and Susan (deceased); and the countless friends and other family members that count themselves lucky to have orbited his giving, gentle soul, if just for a while.

Now it is time to do the one thing that humble Eric would recoil from — let’s make him the center of attention and all share our stories of how wonderful he is and was.
