Bernice H. Durand, 85, of Butler, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 11, 2024, at her home.

Born July 2, 1938, in Natrona Heights, she was the daughter of John Meso and Mary Madeja Meso.

Bernice was a nurses aide for many years and at the age of 50, she went back to school and became an LPN. She belonged to St. Francis of Assisi Parish, St. Mary's Church in Herman. She was very active in the community, serving as president, vice president and secretary in many organizations, such as Christian Mothers, GFWC and American Legion Auxiliary to name a few. She also helped out in so many ways, in so many different things. She loved bingo, soup, bare feet and farm life. She loved and gave so much to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a cancer survivor at age 82.

Surviving are her son, Andrew “Buddy” (Dawn) Durand of Butler; three daughters, Denise Mikolay of Brunswick, Ohio, Karen Woodard of Butler and Kelly (John) Goettler of Butler; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; her beloved sister, Patty Babinsack of Natrona, Pa.; and a brother, Jerry (Lucy) Meso of Youngstown, Ohio.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Andrew Durand; her younger brother, Johnny; a sister, Jeanie; granddaughter, Amber Lynn; and two sons-in-law, Tom Mikolay and Lee Woodard.

DURAND — A memorial service for Bernice H. Durand, who died Thursday, Jan. 11, 2024, will be held at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at FOX FUNERAL HOME, 410 W. Main St., Saxonburg, with Father Ward Stakem officiating.

Memorial donations may be made to the Saxonburg American Legion.
