24. Stay informed
Closing out “24 ways to improve your life in 2024” is a reminder to stay informed with a subscription to Butler County’s long-standing news source: the Butler Eagle.
According to general manager Tammy Schuey, being well-informed is one of the best ways to stay involved in the local community.
“And the newspaper is where you’re going to be not only informed about your state and national and world news,” she said, “but it is the only place you’re going to get the news from your local communities.”
Schuey said the newspaper reports with an eye for “the facts,” not opinions, letting readers actively participate in decisions and events throughout the region.
“That’s what we’re trained to do: We give both sides of the story,” she said. “We give you the facts and then you get to use your critical thinking skills to really understand the story and be informed about what’s going on in your community.”
Local news also helps give a voice to stories and perspectives that, otherwise, “nobody would know about,” Schuey said.
“There’s a lot of people doing a lot of good things within our community,” she said. “Not just the public officials, but our first responders and the unsung heroes that volunteer day in and day out.
“I love to tell their stories.”
