20. Connect with a club
Bored and want something to do in the new year? Join the club — literally. More specifically, join one of the clubs in Butler County.
In municipalities across the county, you’ll find a service club of some kind, perhaps even more than one, such as the Rotary Club, Lions Club or Elks.
Butler County has at least nine different Rotary Clubs, based in Butler, Cranberry, Slippery Rock, Zelienople, Portersville, Karns City and Saxonburg. Butler and Cranberry each have two Rotary Clubs, with Butler having an “AM” and a “PM” club, and Cranberry featuring a “Sunrise” and “Sunset” club.
Similarly, there are seven Lions Clubs in the county: in Butler, Portersville, Evans City, Slippery Rock, Zelienople, Cranberry and Valencia. There are also Elks lodges in both Butler and Cranberry.
Elks membership is available for people age 21 and older who are American citizens.
Interested youngsters can sign up for Butler County’s 4-H program, which is maintained by the Penn State Extension of Butler County and is targeted at youths ages 5 to 18.
Within the county’s 4-H program are over 30 clubs dedicated to a specific interest, such as archery, photography, environmental conservation, science and animal husbandry.
According to the Penn State Extension’s website, the Butler County 4-H currently boasts more than 330 members and 100 volunteer adults.
