Mildred Olmstead
Mildred G. “Millie” Olmstead, 99, of Elk Haven Nursing Home, St. Marys and formerly of Fairview Avenue, Johnsonburg, passed away early Thursday morning, Jan. 4, 2024, at Penn Highlands Elk following a brief illness.
She was born on Nov. 24, 1924, in Butler, a daughter to the late Francis and Irene Burns Angert. On June 10, 1944, in Butler, she married Maurice A. Olmstead. He preceded her in death on July 16, 2017.
Raised in Butler, Millie was a graduate of Butler High School, and she and Maurice lived in Butler after their marriage until 1951. After moving to Johnsonburg and working other jobs, alongside her husband, they opened Olmstead’s Hardware and Olmstead’s Plumbing and Heating, and operated it out of the storefront on Market Street until their retirement in 1996.
Millie was a member of Holy Rosary Church. She loved her grandchildren and was an avid bingo player.
Millie is survived by her grandchildren, Paul Olmstead of Wilcox, Mrs. Kimberly (Jeff) Kravec of Coatsville, Pa., Greg Olmstead of Mount Jewett and Brad Olmstead of Greensburg; a daughter-in-law, Betsy Olmstead of Smethport; and her great-grandchildren, Isabella Kravec and Alexa Olmstead. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
In addition to her parents and husband, Millie was predeceased by her son, Gary Olmstead; and siblings, Jay Angert, Francie Angert and Catherine “Kitty” Anocera.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to her niece, Rona Ferrari, and the staff of Elk Haven for their care over the past several years.
OLMSTEAD — A Mass of Christian burial for Mildred G. “Millie” Olmstead, who died Thursday, Jan. 4, 2024, will be conducted at Holy Rosary Church, Johnsonburg, at a later date and time, and will be announced by ANTHONY F. FERRAGINE FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICES, 401 Chestnut St., Johnsonburg. Interment will be in Holy Rosary Cemetery, Johnsonburg.
If desired, memorial contributions in Millie’s name may be made to the Elk Haven Nursing Home Activities Department, 785 Johnsonburg Road, St. Marys, PA 15857.
