Samuel Muto Sr.
Samuel Anthony Muto Sr., 87, of Butler, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 24, 2023.
He was born in Karns City on June 9, 1936, to the late Samuel and Florence (Barone) Muto.
After attending Butler High School, Samuel joined the U.S. Navy at the age 17. After he served his country honorably, he went on to work for PennDOT as an assistant superintendent for more than 30 years until his retirement. He was also part owner of Sam & Alice’s Alexander’s Inn.
Samuel loved to play golf, and had numerous holes-in-one, baseball, softball and cards. He also loved bowling, and had numerous 300-pin games, and duckpin bowling. He was a member of Italian Fraternal Society, Sons of Italy, American Legion and the Elks.
Samuel was the father of Dana (Dave) Lawson, Sam Muto Jr., Terri Shelton, Vicki (Jim) Brandt and Micki (Dave) Kerner; brother of Frances Draper; grandfather of Heather (Joe) Reibel, Josh (Erin) Lawson, Ashley (Shawn) Nix and April (Ryan) Crede. He also is survived by his in-laws, Roseann Muto and John Olenic; and seven great-grandchildren.
Samuel was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Patricia “Patty” (Stutz) Muto; siblings, Angelo (Norma) Muto, Louise Olenic, Josephine (Dick) Gall, Robert Muto and Betty Muto; his brother-in-law, Bill Draper; his son-in-law Murel “Sonny” Burrows; and his nephew, Robert Muto.
MUTO — Family and friends of Samuel Anthony Muto Sr., who died Sunday, Dec. 24, 2023, will be received from noon to 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 31, 2023, at SPENCER D. GEIBEL FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, 140 New Castle Road, Butler. A Catholic blessing will immediately follow in the funeral home. Burial will be held privately.
