Retired Lt. Col. Donald L. Williams, U.S. Air Force, 76, of Gibsonia, died peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, on Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2023.

Born in Pittsburgh, on Jan. 28, 1947, he was the son of the late Lee and Betty Jane Marquis Williams.

Don was a U.S. Air Force Veteran, career officer as an AGR at the 171st Air Refueling Wing in Pittsburgh, retiring after 26 years with the rank of lieutenant colonel. He was a navigator who flew many missions both during the Vietnam War and Operation Desert Storm and was the recipient of the Distinguished Flying Cross as an OV-10 weapons specialist operator. Don was a graduate of Duquesne University and earned his master’s in education from Texas Christian University. After retirement from the Air Force, Don was a history teacher at Pine-Richland High School for 20 years.

He was the beloved husband for 55 years of Karen A. Scribner Williams; loving father of Stacie Blakley (Roger), Kristen Carmody (Peter Trucksis) and Bradd Williams (Deborah). He was proceeded in death by sister, Doreen Miles; son-in-law, James Carmody; and grandson Kadden Williams. Dear grandfather of Alexander (Kate) Carmody, Noah Blakley, Hwitley Williams, and Beckett Williams.

The family would like to thank the Amedisys Hospice staff, Caitlin Rudish and Amy Creese. They grew to love Don and enjoyed his sense of humor.

WILLIAMS — Friends of Donald L. Williams, who died Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2023, will be received from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at SCHELLHAAS FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, 5864 Heckert Road, Bakerstown. Blessing services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with Father Mike Akerman, as celebrant. Interment will follow with full military honors will be at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies.
