Man accused of strangling woman, threatening her with sword, gun
A Cranberry Township man was accused Wednesday, Dec. 19, of threatening someone with a sword and a gun, according to township police.
Jeffrey J. Battin, 63, was charged with felony strangulation, misdemeanors terroristic threats and simple assault and summary harassment.
According to documents, callers reported a disturbance at the apartment on Pendelton Way around 3 p.m. Wednesday. When police arrived, a woman said Battin had struck her in the face with his forearm the day before.
Officers observed the woman had two black eyes, a bloody nose and a red mark on her face, police said. The woman also said Battin choked her to the point where she could not breathe, documents showed.
Additionally, police said the woman told them Battin held a firearm to her head and threatened her with a sword. Documents showed both weapons were observed in the apartment by the investigative officer.
Police said they observed blood droplets throughout the apartment.
Battin’s preliminary hearing is scheduled Jan. 5 before District Judge Kevin Flaherty.
