Beverly Martin
Beverly “Bev” Ann Martin, 84, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Dec. 10, 2023, at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh, after sustaining injuries from a fall.
At the time, Bev had been heading to her favorite place, Chili’s restaurant, where she enjoyed rolling silverware four days a week with her “buddies,” ever since she began her employment there in September 2012. She fondly spoke about her co-workers and their time together during those shifts, and Beverly always said that Chili’s made the best cheeseburgers. She also looked forward to riding the Butler city buses, in the hopes of talking with her favorite drivers.
Bev was born on Feb. 17, 1939, to the late Clarence E. and Lois L. Adams Martin, in Butler. She had an older brother, Norman E. Martin, who passed away at seven years old, before she was born. Bev was a proud graduate of Knoch High School in 1959, after attending the Winfield-Clinton High School in Cabot. In her youth, Beverly attended Zion Methodist Church in Sarver, with her parents. She would have been baptized upon becoming a member in April 1955.
Beverly was an avid fan of singing groups Celtic Thunder, the Statler Brothers and many other oldies and country music singers. She enjoyed collecting signed photos of various country singers over the years, as well as attending Celtic Thunder concerts. Additional pastimes included watching her favorite show, “Gunsmoke,” or her favorite movie, “Gone with the Wind.” Bev kept up with the local news by listening to WISR and reading the Butler Eagle, and she also made sure to update people on news events throughout her day. She enjoyed decorating her apartment for each season, especially for Christmas. Beverly looked forward to her occasional trips to the casinos that were organized by her late friend, Ester Doutt.
Beverly put many miles on her shoes each day walking throughout Butler city. She had her regular stops, including NexTier Bank, Medicine Shoppe, All Tangled Up Hair Salon (Cindy), and the Chop Shop for a good cup of coffee or iced tea. She enjoyed her independence and didn’t let anyone hold her back. Though Bev had some barriers in her life, she never let any of that stop her.
Bev’s memory will be carried on by the many people who cared about her at Chili’s, the Arc of Butler County, the Butler Mental Health Association and the Center for Community Resources. Even though Beverly had no known family members at this final stage of life, she acquired many friends everywhere she went, who will never forget her spunky personality, her laughter and zest for life. She will be truly missed.

A private burial will take place at Butler County Memorial Park at Evans City Road, Butler.
