Richard Pokrant
Richard William “Rich” Pokrant, 62, of Mercer passed away at AHN-Grove City on Thursday, Dec. 14, 2023, following a chronic illness. He was born in Monroeville, Pa. on June 24, 1961, and was the son to Charles Barr and Ella Jane Allen. He was adopted by Albert Pokrant. He graduated from Grove City High School in 1980 and attended some college courses for phlebotomy.
He worked as a food service manager at Slippery Rock University and as a culinary arts instructor at the Mercer State Correctional Facility. He was very patient. Richard enjoyed participating in anything his girls wanted to do. He collected Diecast cars and Lionel Trains.
Survivors include his wife Tammy at home; two daughters, Bethany L. Speer (Jeffery) of Harrisville, Pa.; Sarah J. Pokrant of Pittsburgh and a special puppy Shih tzu named Bella Rose; two brothers, George Pokrant (Donna) of Grove City and James Barr of Monroeville, Pa. and nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Beth Lynn Barr.
POKRANT — A memorial service for Richard William “Rich” Pokrant, who died Thursday, Dec. 14, 2023, will be observed at 7 p.m. Wednesday at North Liberty Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Albert “Rusty” Steward presiding.
Friends will be received from 5 p.m. until the time of the service at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the church.
Memorial Contributions may be given to the Wounded Warrior project or the Venango Humane Society.
