The Abie Abraham VA Health Care Clinic on North Duffy Road in Center Township officially cut the ribbon Thursday, Dec.7, on its brand new Virtual Health Resource Center.

The Virtual Health Resource Center is a way to assist veterans and their families with connecting to online resources offered by the Butler Veterans Affairs office.

“We have virtual health visits that veterans can engage in from their homes,” said Breigh Speidel, Connected Care program manager at the Butler VA. “We also have visits that we offer, where veterans come to our clinics to see specialists at other VAs. And we also have different web-based applications, secure messaging, all sorts of different resources that veterans can engage in to augment their care.”

Some of the virtual health services offered by the Butler VA include “home telehealth,” wherein a provider can check on a veteran’s health condition through remote monitoring technology, without the veteran having to leave home. Veterans can also order prescription refills and schedule appointments through the My HealtheVet portal.

Dave Smith, Butler County’s 2022 Veteran of the Year, had the honor of cutting the ribbon for the ceremony. Smith served for 34 years in the U.S. Marine Corps and was wounded twice while serving two tours in Vietnam.

“We know that virtual health is so important to our veterans and to really advance the care that we're able to provide,“ said Butler VA director Sharon Coyle just before the ribbon was cut. ”We really appreciate all the staff’s dedication and hard work, and we’re very excited to launch this new center.“

The Virtual Health Resource Center is available inside the Abie Abraham VA Health Care Clinic. For now, the VHRC will be open only on Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to noon and Thursdays from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. However, the Butler VA plans to expand those hours in the near future.

“Anyone is able to walk in during our open hours of operation,” Speidel said. “It's located right here in the registration area near the front entrance of our building.”
