New Summit Township budget using leftover 2023 funds
Summit Township passed a 2024 budget in November where the expected expenses are about $513,000 more than expected revenues, but the deficit will be covered by money the township is carrying over from 2023.
“Sometimes our carryover is so large we use that to cover the next year’s budget,” said Roxann Stickney, the township’s secretary and treasurer.
The budget’s general fund has about $1.4 million in expected expenses, and nearly $969,000 in expected revenue. The township is carrying more than $650,000 in net funds from 2023, covering the cost of estimated expenses.
Some of the largest expenses anticipated in 2024 include highway maintenance, coming in at more than $500,000 for materials, service costs and worker wages; capital purchase expenses coming in at about $350,000; and more than $100,000 in employee insurance costs.
