The “Beauty of Nature” photography exhibit will showcase the work of Middlesex Township resident Sherrie Dunlap Gallagher through the end of December at the Butler Area Public Library, 218 N. McKean St., Butler.

The free exhibit is available for viewing during library hours in the second-floor gallery.

The “Beauty of Nature” includes landscapes, flora, fauna and insects from Pennsylvania to the Dominican Republic.

The exhibit demonstrates Dunlap Gallagher’s passion for photographing nature from a different perspective and making the ordinary seem extraordinary “en plein air,” which translates from French to “in the open air.”

“I love shooting en plein air to explore textures and natural light and discover the beauty that is all around in our daily lives in this world, if we take a moment to see it,” Dunlap Gallagher said.

She discovered her love of photography as a child, when she would use her mother’s 35 mm camera or her own pink plastic Barbie camera.

“I have always enjoyed capturing moments, beauty, emotion and storytelling,” Dunlap Gallagher said.

She studied black-and-white photography as well as digital documentary-style photography in France.

Dunlap Gallagher has received various awards for photography in local, regional and national shows, including Best in Show, and regularly exhibits in galleries around Southwestern Pennsylvania.

She believes art is present in everything and everyone, if people just take the time to see and appreciate it.

“Photography is capturing moments, stories and the beauty of the natural world and our connection to it and to each other,” Dunlap Gallagher said.
