Portersville to vote on final 2024 budget in December meeting
Portersville borough council anticipates a balanced 2024 budget.
The borough’s proposed budget plans for $83,289 in total revenue, which will be spent toward expenditures totaling the same amount, $83,289.
The borough intends to set aside nearly half of its funding — $40,548 — for road maintenance.
“It’s because the costs of all the materials are going up,” said Jim Bish, secretary for Portersville. “We might pave one road and tar-and-chip the rest of them.”
Miscellaneous costs makes up the second-largest portion of the budget’s expenditures, amounting to $21,716. Bish says that just under $18,000 of these expenses are related to insurance.
Additionally, $7,695 is set aside for fire and emergency medical services, $6,360 for administrative expenses, $1,800 for legal, $1,840 for land and buildings, $1,500 for engineering, $1,150 for health and sanitation and $600 for tax collection.
The $83,289 in revenue comes from $38,264 from local taxes and $11,530 from real estate taxes. Other revenue includes $4,626 from licenses and permits and $1,165 in fines.
Additionally, the budget notes $27,704 in miscellaneous revenue.
“Some of those items are going to be liquid fuels (tax) and park rentals,” Bish said. “We also get reimbursed by Muddy Creek for the fire department's workman's comp.”
Council is expected to vote on its final budget at its Monday, Dec. 4 meeting.
The borough council also has announced and approved the meeting schedule for 2024.
The council will meet at 7 p.m. on the first Monday of each month at Browns Country Kitchen. The one exception to the schedule is January 2024, when the council will meet on Tuesday, January 2.
