Jerry Mengel
Jerry Dudley Mengel, 80, of New Castle, passed away the evening of Monday, Nov. 6, 2023, at UPMC Jameson Hospital.
Born Sept. 5, 1943, in New Sewickley Township, Pa., he was the son of the late Abraham and Marguerite (Holton) Mengel.
On June 20, 1964, he married his beloved wife of 51 years, Ruth L. (Hall) Mengel. She preceded him in death on July 9, 2015.
Jerry graduated from Freedom High School. He served in the Army National Guard for six months. Jerry was a self-employed livestock driver. He loved square dancing and polka dancing, collecting horse drawn carriages, and painting cars. He will always be remembered as a hard worker and a family man who cherished the time he spent with his family, especially his grandchildren. Jerry attended Harmony Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Abel L. (Tammy) Mengel of Slippery Rock and Shawn (Beverly Tomei) M. Mengel of New Castle; his fiancée, Carolyn Zarybnicky; one sister, Elaine (Joey) Chalupiak of Baden; one brother-in-law, Jim Wylie of Freedom; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren and one on the way.
In addition to his parents and his wife, Jerry was preceded in death by two sons, Clint Alan Mengel and infant son, Shane Michael Mengel; and two sisters, Karen Wylie and Darla Cutchall.
MENGEL — Visitation for Jerry Dudley Mengel, who died Monday, Nov. 6, 2023, will be held from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at R. CUNNINGHAM FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle.
A funeral service will take place immediately following visitation at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Jeff McKay, of Harmony Baptist Church, officiating.
