Mary Jane (Kalmeyer) Lee, 81, of Zelienople, passed away Saturday, Nov. 4, 2023, while under the care of Good Samaritan Hospice.

Born on Dec. 10, 1941, in Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of the late Ellis Kalmeyer and Margaret (Lockaton) Kalmeyer.

Mary Jane was a 1959 graduate of Mars High School. She went on to earn her bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Slippery Rock University in 1963, where she also was an original member of the Rocklettes with the Rocks Marching Band. She obtained her master's equivalency for Pennsylvania in 1992.

Mary Jane taught primary grades in Forrest City and Wynne, Ark., and the Pine-Richland School District in Pennsylvania. She retired from Seneca Valley School District in 2003 after 30 years of dedicated service.

Mary Jane was a member of the Pennsylvania State Education Association, the Jephthah Chapter and Northside Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, where she served in numerous positions and as Worthy Matron. She also served as co-president and secretary of Allegheny Kountry Kampers. In her free time, Mary Jane loved traveling, camping, spending winters in Florida and enjoying time with her family and grandchildren. She will be dearly missed.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Joseph G. Lee, whom she married on July 25, 1964; her children, Janette Stanger and Meredith (Neil) Lanasa; her grandchildren, Justin Stanger (Jessica Transue) and Mia and Mallory Lanasa; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Mary Jane was preceded in death by her brother, Ellis Kalmeyer Jr.; and her sisters and brothers-in-law, Marjorie and George Shields and Beverly and Phil Rezzetano.

LEE — A celebration of life for Mary Jane (Kalmeyer) Lee, who died Saturday, Nov. 4, 2023, will be held at a later date.

Memorial donations may be made in her name to Good Samaritan Hospice, 146 Neely School Road, Wexford, PA 15090.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to BOYLAN FUNERAL HOME, 324 E. Grandview Ave., Zelienople.
