Boys Soccer: Davey lifts Rockets past GC

Trent Davey scored on a penalty kick in the 49th minute, accounting for the lone goal in Slippery Rock’s 1-0 boys soccer win against Grove City on Wednesday.

Josh Book had five saves for the Rockets (10-2, 5-0).

Mars 5, Armstrong 1 — Max Davis scored a pair of goals for the Planets (7-3-1, 5-2-1) in this Tuesday win.

Cross Country

Knoch hosted Burrell and Hampton on Tuesday. The Knights’ Carter French finished first in the boys race. Ava Santora took second and Brooke Galcik fourth in the girls race.

The Knoch teams will celebrate Senior Night at their last section meet next Tuesday.

In a meet against Clarion, Miley Mooney of Karns City won the girls race with a time of 23 minutes, 33 seconds. Teammates Sophia Bonetto and Adylyn Jones were second and third, respectively.

Karns City’s Dillan Stroup and Noah Weiland were third and fourth, respectively, in the boys race.

Team scores were not recorded.

Girls Volleyball

Moniteau 3, Karns City 0 — The Gremlins dropped this match 25-20, 25-7, 25-20.

Ava Fox had nine digs amd two kills, Haylie Karenbauer seven kills, Ashley Mauer six asists and six digs, Brooke Rumbaugh four aces and two assists, Nicole Taylor eight digs.

Seneca Valley 3, Freeport 0 — The Raiders swept the visiting Yellowjackets. No other details were available.

Girls Tennis

Butler’s No.1 doubles tandem of Ali Smith and Laini Spohn defeated Seneca Valley’s No. 2 doubles unit, 10-7, in the first round of the WPIAL section doubles tournament. Butler then lost to Moon’s No. 1 doubles team, 10-5.

The Golden Tornado’s No. 2 doubles tandem of Amy Waggoner and Emily Hinch lost to North Hills’ No. 1 unit, 10-5.
