County golfers in WPIAL girls finals
Three Butler County girls golfers have advanced to the final round of the WPIAL Individual Championships.
In Class AAA, Seneca Valley’s Lihini Ranaweera placed fifth in the semifinal round Tuesday at Diamond Run. The Raiders’ Madison Sharek took fifth. Both girls shot an 80 for the day.
In Class AA, Freeport’s Lillie Snow placed fifth with a 92, also at Diamond Run.
Diamond Run will also host the WPIAL Championships on Oct. 4.
Cross Country
Viktor Zahn won the boys race in 18 minutes, 49 seconds and Kasey Yeager won the girls race in 21:34 as Slippery Rock won its meets Tuesday afternoon. The Rocket boys defeated Sharpsville 17-44 while the girls defeated Moniteau, 18-45.
Moniteau’s boys and Sharpsville’s girls did not field full teams.

Butler swept its meet on Tuesday as the Golden Tornado girls edged Oakland Catholic, 26-30, and the boys defeated Central Catholic, 15-47. Butler’s boys are 5-0 on the season.
Ava Brewster and Owen Dressler won their respective races for the Golden Tornado.

Freeport’s boys defeated Deer Lakes, 21-412, but lost a 27-32 decision to Shady Side Academy. Freeport’s girls defeated Deer Lakes, 16-44, and Shady Side Academy, 15-47. The Yellowjackets’ Michael Braun won the boys race in 17:07. Shady Side’s Chelsea Hartman won the girls race in 19:20, Freeport’s Grace Kristine taking second in 21:48.
Girls Volleyball
Sarah Szebalskie tallied 10 kills and three aces as Butler defeated Gateway, 3-0. Match scores were 25-23, 25-21, 25-11.
Audrey Lehman had 10 kills for the Golden Tornado while Channing Popovich had five kills and three blocks. Butler hosts Canon-McMillan on Thursday.
A-C Valley 3, Union 0 — Bella Ielease had six kills and 14 digs for the Falcons (3-6), who won by scores of 25-18, 30-28, 25-17. Lexi Altman tallied 10 assists and 17 digs.
Rylan Strauser had five kills, Hannah Ithen seven kills for A-C Valley, which hosts Clarion on Thursday.
Moniteau 3, Karns City 0 — Davina Pry had four aces and 10 kills as the Warriors won the match by scores of 25-20, 25-7, 25-20. Bella Hernandez added two kills, four blocks and an ace, Abbey Jewart two aces and 16 assists.
Knoch 3, New Castle 0 — The Knights improved to 9-2 overall, 5-1 in section play with this win. Sierra Mock had eight kills, Sabrina Schlott five kills, Karlee Buterbaugh had 10 service points.
Slippery Rock 3,Titusville 0 — Anora Robare tallied 20 assists and three aces for the Rockets, who won the match 25-9, 25-21, 25-16. Molly Bissell had six kills, Lillian Campbell and Avalee Demidovich five kills each.
Demidovich also had nine digs and a block.
Freeport 3, Burrell 0 — The Yellowjackets (10-0, 8-0) remained unbeaten with this 25-10, 25-13, 25-14 win. Alaina Whitlinger had 14 kills and eight service points, Grace Beach 22 assists, four kills and 14 service points for Freeport.
Josie Russo contributed four kills and three blocks, Leah Schreckengost 15 service points, five kills and two blocks, Autumn English four kills and four blocks. Freeport plays at Seneca Valley on Wednesday.
North Allegheny 3, Seneca Valley 1 — No further details were provided.
Boys Soccer
Aeden Smith and William Schwalm scored goals as Knoch defeated Freeport, 2-0.
Girls Soccer
Grove City shut out Slippery Rock, 3-0. The Rockets return to action at Greenville on Thursday.
Girls Tennis
Butler won its final home match of the season, defeating Kiski Area, 5-0. Ali Smith, Laini Spohn and Sophia Kingsley won the singles matches. Doubles winners were Amy Waggoner and Emily Hinch, Olivia Porneluzi and Maggie Bodamer.
