Police: Karns City woman failed to pay for lottery tickets at Center Township gas station
State police accused a Karns City woman of illegally scratching more than $2,000 worth of lottery tickets and taking money from the register while employed at a Center Township gas station.
Buffie L. Deal, 44, was charged with three counts of felony theft after a string of thefts were viewed via surveillance footage from Jiffy Mini Mart gas station on Route 8, Center Township.
According to charging documents, owners of the gas station reported the alleged thefts May 22.
Police said Deal was identified on surveillance footage and seen placing lottery tickets in her purse without paying for them. Documents showed the amount of stolen lottery tickets was $2,020.
Other footage showed Deal making fraudulent transactions in the sales system by scanning items, taking cash for the purchase, then voiding the transaction and pocketing the money, police said.
Those transactions, in addition to the total amount of lottery tickets, amounted to $4,844, documents showed.
Deal’s preliminary hearing has not yet been scheduled.
