Late TD sinks Mars

The Mars football team’s rally earned for the Planets the lead, only to see it slip away at Moon Stadium on Friday.

Twenty-three straight points vaulted Mars to a four-point edge early in the fourth quarter, but Nick Prozzoly scored a touchdown for the Tigers with 2:59 left to hand the Planets a 26-23 loss.

Evan Wright rushed for 117 yards and two scores for Mars while quarterback Luke Goodworth completed 12 of 27 passes for 220 yards and one touchdown.

Aidan Alessio caught the scoring aerial (15 yards) and finished with five receptions for 84 yards. Gabe Hein added five catches for 99 yards.

After a 0-3 start to the season, Moon has won back-to-back games.

Mars (3-2) hosts Highlands next Friday.

Union/A-C Valley 40, Kane 0 — Owen Bish ran through Kane’s defense for 148 yards and two touchdowns on just 10 carries and the Falcon Knights’ defense pitched a shutout on the road.

Logan Skibinski added three scores, two on the ground and another on a kickoff return.

The Wolves (0-5) turned the ball over five times. Zac Cooper intercepted a pass and recovered a fumble. Aidan Fox returned another fumble for a touchdown.

The Falcon Knights (3-2) host Redbank Valley next Friday.

North Catholic 28, Kiski Area 7 — On his team’s first play from scrimmage, Jack Fennell raced 53 yards to give the Trojans a quick lead and they were never threatened while earning this Greater Allegheny Conference win on the road.

Fennell ended the game with 160 yards on the ground.

Danny Franco and quarterback Jason Siket both added a touchdown run and Brady Koziara returned an interception for another score.

North (3-2) hosts Armstrong next Friday.

Girls Soccer

Macrina Robb scored the lone goal for Knoch in a 1-0 victory over Greensburg Salem. Hannah Klemm made three saves in goal.

The Knights travel to Burrell on Monday night.

Girls Volleyball

Kendall Ritzert tallied 10 assists, four digs and two aces, but Karns City dropped a 3-0 decision to Redbank Valley. Match scores were 25-11, 28-26, 25-22.

Ava Fox contributed eight digs and seven kills, Haylie Karenbauer seven kills, Ashley Mauer seven assists and three digs, Nicole Taylor six digs and Cayley Craig three digs and two kills.

Clarion-Limestone 3, Moniteau 0 — Lily Staab had four kills, four digs and two aces, but the Warriors dropped a 25-19, 25-20, 25-14 decision. Marissa Pry had eight digs.
