McCandless

Ronald G. McCandless, 69, of Loudon, Tenn., passed away at home on Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2023.

Ron was born on May 30, 1953, in Pittsburgh. He was the son of Kenneth and Veronica (Kleber) McCandless.

Ron graduated in 1972 from Butler High School. He went on to graduate from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, N.Y., in 1977, as a second lieutenant, later earning his Master of Science degree. He proudly served in the U.S. Army for 18 years, retiring as a major.

After his military career, Ron worked in procurement/purchasing in the Knoxville, Tenn., area until retiring in 2018. Ron enjoyed playing cards, reading, Sudoku, bicycling, boating, and spending time with his family and friends.

Ron is survived by his wife, Nancy Ross Colburn, whom he married on Nov. 9, 2020; and stepchildren, Max Colburn, Allison Colburn and Andrea Colburn; as well as his sister, Patricia (John) Chuba of Dawsonville, Ga.; nieces, Kendra (David) Fulmer and great-nephew Adam of Dauphin, Pa., and Megan (Chris) Paul and great-nephews Logan and Austin of Cumming, Ga.; and several other extended family members.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents; and his first wife, Barbara Cook “Trudy” McCandless.

A memorial service will be planned for a later date.
