Janice Morgain
Janice (Sankey) Morgain, 58, of Saxonburg, passed on Thursday, Aug. 31, 2023, with family by her bedside.
She was born on July 16, 1965, in Butler, and raised in West Sunbury, graduating from Moniteau High School in 1983. She was an active member of the Family Support Group for Alpha CO. 1/112th Infantry Company of Butler, Pa. during their first tour in Iraq in 2004. She later was a co-founder of a nonprofit called Support Operation Solder (SOS) where she coordinated collections and mailings for hundreds of care packages to send overseas.
Janice worked at TW Phillips for many years with her husband, Carl, and years later started working as a senior buyer for Ibis Tek Inc. purchasing raw materials for Humvees. She loved taking care of her yard, enjoyed flowers, playing word games with her friends, visiting with her mother and going to camp with her family and friends.
She was predeceased by her husband, Sgt. Carl J. Morgain, who was killed in action May 22, 2005; her parents, Helen J. (Logut) Sankey and Arthur D. Sankey; her siblings, Larry Sankey, Artie Sankey Jr., Christine Rothman (Sankey), Veronica Morrow (Sankey); her in-laws, Terry Moore, Dr. David Rothman and Cherie Sankey.
She is survived by her son, Zachary Macurak, of Saxonburg; her daughter, Madison Morgain (fiancé, Billy McGregor), of Slippery Rock; one grandson, Cooper Macurak; her sister, Sherri Moore, of Butler; and her partner of many years, Nick Iannotti. She is also survived by her mother in-law, Carol F. Morgain; sister in-law, Janet (Morgain) Waag and brother in-law, Scott Waag, and their family. Jan was also survived by her beloved goldendoodle, Oliver “Ollie,” and many cousins, nieces and nephews who loved her.
MORGAIN — Family and friends of Janice (Sankey) Morgain, who died Thursday, Aug. 31, 2023, will be received for visitation from 2 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at WILLIAM F. YOUNG FUNERAL HOME, 132 Main St., West Sunbury. A blessing service will be held at 6 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Sean Francis of St. Faustina Parish officiating.
Private burial will take place Thursday at Summit United Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Butler.
