County commissioners approve contracts for new Butler Township district court office
Nearly $1.2 million in renovations to convert a building on Fairground Hill Road in Butler Township into the new office for District Court 50-1-01 will begin soon.
The county commissioners on Wednesday, Aug. 30, approved four contracts for the project.
Each contractor was hired through Keystone Purchasing Network, a cooperative purchasing program, and not through public bidding, officials said.
Three of the contracts were awarded to Clark Contractors Inc. of Bedford County, including the $722,708 general construction contract, the $85,231 plumbing contract and the $47,617 HVAC contract. Schultheis Electric of Westmoreland County received the $355,317 electrical contract.
In addition, the commissioners agreed to forward the county’s $1.25 million grant agreement to replace the failing water and sewage systems at the Allegheny-Clarion Valley Business Park to the state for final approval.
The Appalachian Regional Commission provided preapproval of the grant, but the state Department of Community and Economic Development is administering the grant.
The total project will cost $4.66 million. The rest of the money is coming from a state grant received in 2020, federal American Rescue Plan funding received last year and other grants.
The park water is under a do-not-consume order issued in January by the state Department of Environmental Protection. The DEP cited the facility and the current owner in the spring. Drinking water is being delivered to business tenants of the park, where more than 400 people are employed.
The commissioners also approved a $14,300 contract with Widmer Engineering to design access for people with disabilities to the multipurpose field near the Masonic Shelter in Alameda Park. Community Development Block Grant money from 2022 is being used to pay for the contract.
