Edward R. “Chip” Allen, 60, of Butler, died unexpectedly at work Monday, July 17, 2023, at the Venango County Post Office.

He was born Jan. 27, 1963, son of the late Edward C. Allen and the late Virginia Hockenberry Allen.

He was a 1981 graduate of Karns City Area High School and served the U.S. Army from 1981 to 1985. He was a member of the National Rifle Association. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, skeet shooting, target practice, get-togethers with his family and cookouts. He was a very good cook and baker. He loved gardening and canned whatever he grew.

He is survived by two sisters, Kathy Allen of Butler and Susan and Bill Hicks of Chicora; a brother, Steve “Beaver” Allen of Butler; five nephews, Shane and Sandy Allen of Chicora, Thomas Domback of California, Justin Allen of Green County, Pa., Brett Blaskowitz and his companion Angela Diehm of Elwood City and Jesse Allen and fiancé Taylor Dzikowski of Pittsburgh; two nieces, Heather and Amanda Allen of Butler and their mother, Cherie Lambing; and three great-nieces.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Jimmy Allen.

ALLEN — Friends of Edward R. Allen, who died Monday, July 17, 2023, will be received from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday at STEIGHNER FUNERAL HOME, 111 E. Slippery Rock St., Chicora. Military honors will follow at 9 p.m. at the funeral home, performed by the Chicora and East Brady American Legions.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
