Clinton Township woman endangers neighbors during target practice, police say

A Clinton Township woman’s target practice resulted in felony charges, as one of her bullets flew into a nearby home, according to charges filed Monday, July 10.

Janine M. O’Toole, 68, was charged with felony discharge of a firearm into an occupied structure and misdemeanor reckless endangerment for a June 29 incident.

Police said they responded on that date to a Knoch Road, Clinton Township, address for a disturbance.

Residents of the home said they heard a noise that sounded like “something breaking” and discovered bullet holes in two walls.

Police determined the bullet traveled into the residence and through the walls of two bedrooms, endangering one person in each room.

Documents showed a neighbor, identified as O’Toole, had been target practicing in her backyard with a Ruger P89 handgun at the time. Police said she was shooting at a target on a tree, without a proper backstop, toward Knoch Road.

O’Toole’s preliminary hearing has not yet been scheduled.
