A Butler man is facing charges after state police said he had a knife in the lobby of a district court office on Thursday, June 15.

Randall A. Peevey, 45, was charged with possession of a prohibited offensive weapon and possession of a dangerous weapon in a court facility, and released on $25,000 unsecured bond.

According to an affidavit of probable cause, police and Peevey were at District Judge Kevin O’Donnell’s office in Butler Township shortly after 10 a.m. for Peevey’s preliminary hearing on a charge of driving under the influence that police filed following an April 17 incident in the township.

A state police corporal saw Peevey with medium-sized, fixed-blade knife at his side in the lobby. When a trooper asked him if he had a knife, Peevey began to reach in his right rear pocket and was directed outside of the office, police said.

After denying that he had a knife, Peevey was detained and searched, and a karambit fixed-blade knife was found in his right rear pocket, police said.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 27.
