Times tough, about to get tougher

How many Butler County residents who currently are customers of Butler Area Sewer Authority read their Pennsylvania American Water bill for the month of June?

If you did, please enlighten me as to why this acquisition is a good thing. For the past couple of months, I read BASA’s letters on why this acquisition is a great thing (for them I'm sure it is.)

Now, with my June water bill, PAWC included details as well. They explained that the average residential customer uses 3,212 gallons of water a month, and the average bill is $69.24, which I concur.

Then they mentioned that, using those same figures, our future wastewater bills will be $106.65 a month. I had to read it twice because that is my average BASA bill for 3 months. So, if I am reading this correctly, my bill will increase almost 300%. My yearly BASA bill is around $476, but under PAWC, it will be around $1279.80.

The deadline for filing a protest or petition is July 10, 2023. So I am interested in other customers’ opinions — not elected officials or board members. Times are already bad, and if this is true, they are about to get tougher.

Michael Rock,

Butler
