Butler County was incorporated on March 12, 1800. Residents can get a slice of all 223 years of that history by heading to one or more historic county attractions on the second annual Butler County History Day.

History Day is slated from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 13, and Butler County will showcase 10 different historic sites, with visitors encouraged to sample all of them throughout the day. The 10 stops are separated into two geographical loops to make it easier to navigate through the county’s historic past.

Visitors are encouraged to pick up a Butler County History Day Passport at any of the stops. At each stop, holders can get their passport stamped. Those who finish their trip with at least three stamps will receive a small gift and are eligible to win a $25 Butler County tourism gift certificate.

“Last year’s inaugural History Day was a tremendous success,” said Jack Cohen, president and CEO of the Butler County Tourism & Convention Bureau. “Butler County’s history — from the formation of our country, industrial impact, to the creation of the Jeep — is rich and important. We encourage everyone to learn more about Butler County’s history.”

In the first loop, visitors will find the Little Red Schoolhouse, Maridon Museum, Washington’s Trail 1753 at Senator Walter Lowrie House, Butler Old Stone House Region AACA and the Mars Area History & Landmarks Society.

The second loop consists of the Evans City Historical Society, Historic Harmony’s Ziegler Log Cabin and Visitor’s Cabin, and Zelienople Historical Society’s Buhl House and Passavant House.
