Union/ACV races past C-L on the diamond

Union/A-C Valley’s softball game at Clarion-Limestone was tied after two innings.

It didn’t stay that way long.

The Falcon Knights erupted for 14 runs in the third inning — snapping a 2-2 deadlock — and cruised to an 18-2, four-inning victory from there on Monday.

Mackenzie Parks and Emerson Stevens both singled, doubled and tripled, combining for six RBI and six runs scored to fuel a 15-hit attack. Magen Walzak pitched 2,.1 innings of scoreless relief for the win.

Now 7-4, the Falcon Knights host Karns City on Thursday.

West Mifflin 8, Knoch 0 — The Knights out-hit the Titans, 7-6, but were blanked in this loss. Brooke Bastin had three hits in as many at-bats for Knoch.

South Fayette 6, Mars 5 — No other details were provided as the Planets were defeated.

Baseball

It took 10 innings, but Mars powered past Moon Area on the road Monday by a 4-3 score. Benji Astbury, Jake Johnson, and Chase Winstead each had multi-hit performances for the Planets, who had seven hits — none of which went for extra bases. Shane Klinefelter and Nolan Scott had RBIs in the victory.

Butler 6, Taylor Allderdice 4 — The Golden Tornado (7-5, 4-3) received a double, two singles and an RBI from Lance Slater. Mac Schnur struck out 11 in six scoreless innings to get the win. Allderdice (1-10, 0-10) struck for four runs in the seventh.

Madden Clement doubled and singled for Butler. Noah Kollinger doubled and singled as well, collecting two RBI.

Girls Lacrosse

Abby Legin made 11 saves and Sage Smith and Ava Dreher had goals, but Freeport bowed to Shady Side Academy, 16-2. Lillie Snow had an assist in the contest.

Boys Volleyball

Alex Montello had 24 assists as Butler defeated Fox Chapel, 3-0. Scores were 25-19, 25-18 and 25-13. Max Gianneski had nine kills for the Golden Tornado.

Adam Kaufman had 13 digs and Andrew Archer two aces as Butler improved to 8-3 overall, 5-2 in section play. The Tornado play Tuesday at North Hills.

Boys Volleyball

Seneca Valley 3, Baldwin 0 — The Raiders swept Baldwin by scores of 25-8, 25-9, and 25-14. Grant Hoover had six kills, Nick Dunmire five, and Peter Breski added a dozen assists and three blocks.

Boys Tennis

Michael deVyver and Nathan Craig won singles matches, and the doubles pairing of Peter Ko and Tom Beresynak also emerged victorious as Seneca Valley improved to 8-6 with a win over host Norwin.
